VW POLO 1.4 - action when EMS warning light displays - meltonpro

Warning light displaying on "X" Reg VW Polo 1.4 re: Engine Management System. This occurred back in 2007 (32,000 miles) and is occurring again at 43,000 miles.

The car was last serviced in December 2010. The solution in 2007 was to fit air intake thrust sensor part 036906051. It took two attempts (first sensor faulty!) and cost £168.40 incl. VAT & Labour.

Is it likely to be the same fault again or is something else the cause of the warning light? If it is caused by a faulty part, why has it failed?

What 's the next step? Can the car be driven to a garage or should it be towed in? Please advise.

There's no way of telling what the fault is from your description. It's just a generic warning message. On a car of that age, it probably means that it can't get the lambda sensor to give a sensible reading. given your low annual mileage, there might just be a hole in the exhaust system that's letting air in.

The car is ok to drive to the garage.

Thanks for the info Unthrottled. I'll drop it in to a local garage/exhaust shop to have the exhaust system checked along with the sensor. Cheers, Meltonpro.
