Mazda 2 - Mazda 2 facelift - davecooper

Has anyone had reasonable experience driving both the pre and facelifted Mazda 2 TS2? I currently have a pre facelift TS2 and have been impressed by how good the car is, especially with this little engine. However, there have been times when a little more power would have been useful, especially with passengers on board. However, as it is only me in the car for most of the time, this has not really bothered me too much.

However, now that Mazda have knocked a few horsepower off and given it taller gearing to get it into the £30 tax bracket, I am concerned that this may have blunted the performance a bit. I am due to change the car in September and although I will test drive the facelifted version, this is not going to give me any real indication of differences, especially with a low mileage demonstrator which hasn't loosened up yet.

The TS2 is a 1.3 isn't it? There's a 1.5 Sport which could be worth a try.

I have driven two Mazda 2 1.5 petrol sports. They are good to drive and much quicker than the 1.3 engine. The first one had really dreadful tyre noise and the second one had very reasoanble tyre noise. I have also driven the diesel sports. This is also good to drive and this one had reasonable trye noise. All of these were the mark 1. I recently drove the mark 2 automatic. This has the pterol 1.5 sports engine, but is not quite so quick, although it is still quicker than the 1.3, especially when you use kick down. This also had reasonable tyre noise. I suspect that these cars vary a lot depending on the tytres fitted. The mark 2 has a nicer interior, but drives much the same, so I would not think it is worth changing just to get the mark 2. I suggest you try both the petrol and diesel sports models.

I have had a mazda2 sport for 2 months, prior to buying, i tried out the ts and ts2, both were far better than the fiesta which i had also tried ( ford fiestas have been my choice of car since the MK2 through to the mk5,) The sport is by far the best value and is alround a fun car with gadgets only available on the titanium fiesta. The negatives are the road noise on surfaces other than motorways and stiff suspension again on A&b roads.All in all i am more than pleased with the performance, build quality and economy of 50mpg on the motorway and 42-44mpg in and around town, all the consumption figures given by Mazda stand up to scrutiny, unlike the ford, who if my reading is correct will be fitting the mazda engine solely in the fiesta in late 2011- 2012. where this will leave mazda with regards to sourcing a replacement to the mzr engine is anyones guess.

When the Fiesta uses the MZR engine Mazda will be using the Skyactive engines from 2012 probably?
