If you have a great distance to travel, at the very least put the incorrectly sized tyre on the rear to stop overheating your diff. I can only assume you don't have ABS or the light would have come on by now!

I took the car back to the tyre shop this morning - they admitted their mistake and fitted the correct sized tyre free of charge.

Just wondering, could this have done any lasting damage? Bearing in mind the wrongly sized tyre has been on for a good few months.

Why do you say "a good few months" your orignal post was "I've just had a new tyre fitted on my car" and that was on the 6th of April. How many miles you you done with the wrong tyre. I doubt you have done any harm. Regards Peter

Sorry, my first post was confusing - I put the just in the wrong place, that tyre was actually fitted around 5 months ago, however I don't do much mileage so perhaps it's been driven 400 miles since then.

Perhaps no lasting damage but it would have given the oil in the transmission a damn good work out - the diff must have been working overtime!
