I have a 1956 Morris Minor and am looking to have some original plates made up for it. i.e. silver characters on black background.
Does anyone know anywhere i can get them made up.

Clive,
I have silver on black on my old Norton. They are illegal though I think, as law says they must be white on a black background. With the new laws coming in on No.Plates, there may be a clampdown, so you might consider white letters. Nothing like as attractive though. Where do you live? Many plate makers will do black & white. I use Top Plates in Nottingham., and also someone who advertised in exchange and mart- sorry, cannot remember who.

the new plate laws only apply to new vehicles.
As my car used to have silver on black i am still allowed to have them.
Looking for a mail order company or preferable one in swindon, wiltshire.

There used to be a number plate specialist advetising in the MMOC magazine, but he seems to have disappeared.
I understand that white on black or silver on black plates are still legal for your car (my '58 Minor has them). The digit size is also diferent to later cars.
Try Charlie Ware's Morris Minor Centre and see how they get the plates for their restorations made up. You really need a special with the rounded corners to fit the boot lid aperture if you have a saloon.
His number is 01225 447659
or try The Morris Minor Centre 01225 334444

just phoned the morris minor center.
They are legal on cars pre 1973.
Just ordered a pair (specific for moggies, i.e. fit the resess on the boot)
£28.99 + vat.

All cars in the Channel Island of Guernsey still have black and silver number plates. Try any Guernsey dealer e.g. Jacksons Mercedes (contact details at www.mercedes-jacksons.co.uk/).
