Ford Focus Zetec Climate 07 - Intermittent headlight failure - argybargy

My headlights just failed on a short trip of around half a mile or so. Sidelights still worked all round, foglights too, but headlights--nothing. Got back home and checked the fuse box but it was nothing like the one shown in Haynes, so pulling it out was a waste of effort. Lo and behold, when I tried the lights after putting the fuse box back into its fastenings the headlights worked, so its clearly not a fuse, but Ive still absolutely no idea what it might be. Are the lights controlled by a relay; so could that be developing a fault, and if so, where do I find it? Is it possible that by fiddling with the fuse box Ive re-established a connection that was dislodged? Any other suggestions would be most welcome; dont want to be left without headlights, especially on these cold, dark winter evenings. Cheers.

Further to the above, now that the headlights are working Ive noticed an audible "click" from the vicinity of the passenger side fusebox when the switch is moved from sidelights to headlights, presumably indicating that theres a headlamp relay in the interior fusebox. Cant remember whether this "click" was absent when they werent working, but if I cant sort the problem in the meantime then maybe next time they fail the click/ non click will give me a clue.

Still open to suggestions. :0)

Drop down the fuse/relay box (this is the central junction box)disconnect the multi-pin connectors and check for any water ingress.hth

No water was apparent first time I dropped down the fuse box, but then again I wasnt looking for any. I'll give that a try, ta.
