Peugeot 306 estate - Help with winter tyre size - scfc_151

Im in need of new tyres and as the winter looks like it could be a long one I was considering some good winter tyres as apposed to my ususal conti premium contact 2.

However, predictably the stocks levels of winter tyres are very low. My usual tyre size is 195/55/15 and I am struggling to find any available.

I was wondering if I could reduce the width of the tyre and increase the profile to give me more options of tyres available and also gain better grip in the snow / ice?

There seems to be more tyres available in the 185/60/15 sizes

cheers

Did no winter tyres in the correct size come up at bargain prices since last winter?

I have always bought my winter/all season tyres during the summer, pants stay up that way.

Narrower is usually better in snow.

So i keep hearing, however the 265 section winter tyres on my pick gripped so well that 4WD wasn't needed at all last winter, and was only used to exercise the system.

I suspect that view comes frombefore correct winter tread compunds became available here, with the correct compound the corrects size tyres for the car can be just as good.

Remember a long time ago it was quite common to fit Town and Country tyres to your Austin Cambridge or whatever you owned rear wheels for the winter, same size but deep zig zag pattern.
