Ford Mondeo Mk3 - Brand new clutch failed? - vheptonstall

I had a new clutch fitted to my car last week. It had 84k miles on the clock. Today while depressing the clutch I felt a "twang" and the clutch lost all resistance. When the engine was turned off I could engage gears but as soon as I reignited the engine the car lurched forward, as though stalling. I am really panicking about the cost and about what it might be as I have only travelled 300 miles since the clutch was fitted.

Contact whoever fitted the new clutch have them collect the car and repair it properly.

I did contact them but they said they weren't a recovery service so I had to have the car towed to my family's town where it has to be looked at by a totally different garage. I am just wondering what the problem could be so that I can then contact the garage who fitted the original clutch to demand their payment of the invoice.

Get the car back to the fitting garage - dont expect any joy by taking it to a different garage if you want them to pay.

Gut feeling is its something simple that hasnt been reattached properly, but you cannot expect the fitting garage to pay for something that has been repaired by someone else without giving them the oppurtunity to fix it. Dont forget and repair they do would be at their cost, not the retail price your other garage will charge. If you cant get the car back to the fitting garage that is your problem not theirs
