As it says on the tin, would you have it done for the few hundred quid they want or can perhaps bargain them down from or is it just another little earner for the dealer and not worth the lacquer it comes with ?

My feeling is it is worth it. I have an Isuzu D-Max overseas, new in 2007 and the paint (black) is quite badly market due to various abrasive substances and even washing and polishing by the car cleaners.

the chemicals are less than a tenner to buy yourself and even though it does look better having it done it doesnt really last than a few months so get chemicals from ebay and get someone else to do it a lot cheaper

If it lasted the lifetime of the car or even for the 6 years which is a figure you find when googling, then it would be worth it to me as I detest washing the car. Overseas we pay about £1.50 for a team of people to work on it for about 30 minutes but I guess the same here would be £50 or so !

How often do you do anything other than just wash it ?

Overpriced if charged anything over £50 I'd say. The product itself can be bought online for a few quid, or you can buy some very good wax for less than £20. Bung in some time for someone on a basic wage to wipe on and buff off and job done. £300 allows for a huge mark-up.

If it was such a good product surely care makers would be offering it on their options list and have it applied at the factory.

If you get it bunged in for free as part of the deal, good on you - can't do any harm to have it but my last car had it for free and I soon had done a proper polish/wax myself to ensure I knew it had been done properly.

The product is okay if you buy it on Ebay and apply it yourself, although the claims of 6 years are absurd. But to pay a dealer £200 or so is insane (my sister did !).

Frankly though I prefer the BMW Nano-Wax myself and I have tried both, and its cheaper than Diamond Brite.

You have to keep using the Conserver to ensure the warranty remains valid otherwise the the warranty is useless.

It's worth considering buying the product online and either applying it yourself or getting someone else to apply it for you, takes about 1 hour to do the whole vehicle inside & outside, you'll save around £150-£200 depending on the garage deal.

There are alternative products on the market that are worth considering.

the warranty is useless anyway. I tried to claim for bird poo damage and was told the claim was invalid because the only way the paint could have been damaged was if i hadn't washed the poo off within 24 hours......and their warranty is invalid if you don't wash it off. Totally useless warranty that isn't worth the paper its written on.

That's not good to hear duncanand, did your claim meet what they say on the Jewelultra web site ? (see Extract below)

I'm concerned about the use of the words "virtually eliminated", that implies it's not totally resistant to nitrate etching.

Extract:
"The hard, high gloss protective skin that Diamondbrite creates prevents road salts, traffic film, acid rain, tree sap, insect fluid and other atmospheric pollutants from contacting directly with your cars paintwork. Fading from ultraviolet light is virtually eliminated as is nitrate etching caused by bird droppings (as long as it is washed off within 7 days and treated Diamondbrite Conserver)."

I have a new Golf GTD with water based paint it is terrible paint. I clay bared the car when new and used diamondbrite on it, bought it from ebay. It was easy to apply but to be honest it last no better than a commercially available product i.e. a top coat sealer and a good cannula wax. It’s a con to let the garage do it. It needs regular top up of wax and won’t protect water based paints. My advice just keep your car clean and waxed and try and buy a car with a none water based paint!

Can't see too many places to buy the Finish Kare 1000p. Lots of references to it on detailing sites though.

I thought all paint was water based nowadays?

Interesting splat isn't impressed with the paint on his golf. I had an a3 a couple of years ago and the paint wasn't upto much. It seemed to chip vey easily. Of all the cars I've had that was certainly the worst paint

I've got something similar on my new Hyundai, For the dealer to match the internet broker price he had to bundle together a package that included the fabulous paint protection treatment and gap insurance. I wasn't fussed as long as the final price was right. I've had the car less than 3 months and the water beading on the car just isn't as good as it was when I picked it up. I reckon another couple of months maybe three and I'll clay, polish and seal it myself with products I know work really well. The paint protection is supposed to last five years. Not a chance!

Someone I know paid for it on a metallic black BMW and after 6 months the water didn't bead at all and although it was only ever hand washed there were fine haze marks everywhere. Some protection. He ended up paying the same again and a bit more for a machine polish/paint correction job by a professional detailer. Mind you, it looks good now.

I've bought a few new cars over the years. I was offered Diamondbrite on a Renault several years ago (£500). Total waste of money imo.

Last year I was offered Supaguard...oh it's great etc etc. I said last time I was here you offered me Diamondbrite. Oh they said turns out the first car wash you go through strips it off but this stuff is really great. Well it might be but another £500 ? I turned them down this time.

I think I'll stick to Autoglym products.

I had diamondbrite applied to my 4 year old A3 which is bright red. I love this stuff it is brilliant, so much so that I am going to apply it to my newer A6. I washed the car twice a month and rinsed off with clean water only. Once a month I rinsed off using the conserver and it would shine with a showroom finish and water would bead off instantly, After reading all the threads it seems that no one is using it properly so you wont get the finish. Wash and rinse and no more "wax on, wax off" easy peasy

I thought all paint was water based nowadays?

If you buy a car made in Korea or Japan it will have proper paint, not this water based shoite that the EU makes manufacturers use.

Sorry to say it's a rip off. I had it on my car . Regestered The guarantee. And when I had my paint damaged by bird poop . And following the pack you get and still didn't sort it . Contacted them . Sent some photos and proof . Came back said turn down my claim as said poop was on long time . But wasn't on long . The didn't even send anyone to look at it . So £ 299 waste of money.

I ended up with a car treated with Diamondbrite for free because of the dealer's mistake, it was ok for a year or two, but I wouldn't pay money to have it done, two coats of Autoglym Super Resin-Polish and a machine buffing is better.

Just a curious question as I have never used one - what does a clay bar do?

Just a curious question as I have never used one - what does a clay bar do?

Takes off all the very small bits of muck that get ingrained in the paint - generally the bits you can't really see but affect the overall shine of the paint.

Just a curious question as I have never used one - what does a clay bar do?

Takes off all the tiny particles of dirt that you can't see but feel if you run your hand over the bodywork. After washing the car you spray the panel that needs doing with a mixture of water and shampoo, mold the clay bar into an easy handling shape, then run it over the paint. It must be kept wet - never allow it to dry out. You'd be amazed at how much dirt it picks up on the bar. Then fold bar into itself to create a new surface and continue. This really gives a nice smooth and clean surface to apply your wax/sealant.

You can get them in different roughnesses depending on how bad the paint is.

I had starguard put on my SLK 4 years ago and I wouldn't bother again, don't know if it's comparable to Diamondbrite but I just wax it every so often now, I think a good waxing is going to offer plenty of pretection.
