Vauxhall Corsa B - Corsa 2001 1.2 starting problems - BOWDENNNN

hi i have a Y reg 1.2 corsa and sometime when i go to start the car the engine ticks over but the car will not start for a while and when it does eventually start the light in the shape of a car with a spanner through the middle comes on and the rev counter does not work, but then if I turn off the engine and put it back on the light goes off and everything is fine

ive asked a mech and they couldnt help me even after useing a dinostic so any ideas guys?

its a very common fault on the early-mid corsa c, the plug at the back of the instrument cluster becomes loose.

a bang on the dashboard should get you started but there is a redesigned plug available from vx £12
