Well due to the nice weather tonight i've slid into a 2008 Ford Ranger in my Leon Cupra, all 4 wheels locked and i even had time to put it into reverse before i hit him. I was only doing about 5mph and he was stationary, so damage has been limited to his big front bumper. Now as im a mechanic, and my excess is £750, im going to try and source a bumper for it, so has anyone any links or number of a Ford breakers, 4x4 breakers etc, preferably in to Yorkshire area?
Tried eBay etc, no luck

Since this is a third party claim your insurance will cover the full amount - xs applies to damage to your car not your liability for damage to third party.

Assuming you're on a trader's policy and the excess does apply, would a Ford dealer want more than £750 for the part? Google Shopping shows a few but all in the States unfortunately.

silly question - why where all 4 wheels locked?
if you had released the brake you may have been able to steer around the Ranger.
proof in itself that ABS does not work on ice, even though we are told these electronic systems prevent accidents....

I beg to differ, having 4 locked wheels it will rule, allow the wheels to revolve, you have limited steering, in icy conditions use the controls gently, and if you start to slide, steer into the slide and in most cases you will regain some control.
the biggest problem on ice, is people driving like normal, ie hard on throttle and brakes, and going to fast, or people panicking - slow and smooth wins through!

There are many sorts of ice though swiss, from relatively benign packed snow stuff to hopeless new thick black ice on which you can't go in a straight line without slipping down the camber of the road. It isn't often completely undriveable, but it can be.
Of course you are quite right to stress the need for delicate inputs in slippery conditions, and a certain canniness too. It's also the case that some cars are sweeter than others on the limit even at these low speeds.

- and people doing 5mph on roads that have been completely cleared of snow, grittted and salted and are now merely wet.
