The lock button seems worn on the key fob i have to press it with my nail to get a bit of reach my big fingers don't always catch it the open button is ok, is there a simple fix or is it a new key?

I do have the spare & will use if it becomes faulty.

Is there a service kit for the key?

I had a similar problem. I took the key to the dealer, he tried a new battery, but as it was still not working well he put a small piece of cardboard in too! It seems the battery wasn't touching properly (the clip that held it in place was broken) which was why I had to keep pressing the buttons in really hard. It just seemed to need a bit of padding-out and the key has worked perfectly ever since!

I suspect bigtee's key is the flip type. No idea if the piece of cardboard 'trick' works in these type of fobs. As far as I'm aware that was for the earlier type fobs.

I haven't taken one of these newer ones to bits either, but on earlier types of Vx key that have gone beyond the 'bit of cardboard' stage then I've soldered new tactile switches onto the PCB. You need to be fairly handy with a soldering iron, or know someone who is, but saves approx. 100 quid bill for new key + coding ECU to accept it.

Spam, the flip type keys have to be cut apart then re-glued. All you can access by removing the cover is the battery.

Best example I can give is where someone has converted their old type fob to the flip type.

Bigtee, if I were you, I'd start using the spare key which should give you time to obtain a replacement/repair for the other one.

Ah, so I see, makes my tactile switch replacement surgery on the older style fobs look trivial. Cheers for the links anyway, I might end up with a bangernomics Vx with one of these kays at some point I suppose.

Thanks looks like surgery is required! it's about time we go back to basics cars are getting far too stupid to fix.!!
