Loss of No Claims - how does it work ? - julie page
Had ten years no claims discount until a bump earlier this year that has not been resolved yet.

My insurer says I will loose two years NCD until the accident is resolved in my favor

How many years no claims have I got then?

You may have had 10 years bump free, but I don't think many companies give 10 years NCD.

Experts will be along soon, but I think it's dependent on the company you are with. In my experience most companies stop at 5 or 6, with the largest discount being after year 1.

Only your present insurer can answer that. IIRC LV give discount for up to 10 years. Five years is 70% then the next 5 give 1% each.

Ta my insurer says I now have 3 years

But go to various sites and some give 7 years, some give 9 years others 6. If I put in the option that I have three years NCD the premium is different from when I knock off two years from the max they allow

Same as on the comparison sites if I put in I have 3 years NCD the companies willing to other me insurance is different from when I just knock off two years from their highest NCD option

Ah, everyone goes for the answer without reading the question.

Lets change the question to "I have 10 apples and lose 2". How many apples have I got?

Simple really aint it :)

PS Just moved from one insurer to another, those I was leaving let me no I was entitled to 7 years NCB, the one I was joining said at least 5 years. My last accident? 1987.
