NI reg car. Date of first registration query - bathtub tom
I'm looking at a V5 for a NI registered car. TAZ nnnn

I assumed it was a '98. Wikipedia says Belfast 1993-99

V5 special notes say: Was registered and/or used. Declared manufactured 1998.
V5 also says: Date of first registration: 01 04 2002
Date of first registration in the UK: 01 04 2002

I'd assumed NI was part of the UK. Is it not so for vehicle registrations?

It's my daughter's car and I'm getting rid of it for her. It'll be on ebay from this evening if anyone wants to bid!

Could it have been from the South and newly registered when imported to the North?

I bought an Avensis first regd in NI 2 years previously.
I too assumed it was part of the UK, but they have their own registration office and my car was actually regarded as an import, but for some reason didn't need a SVA test, but had to be reregd here although kept it's NI plate.

Surprising amount of paperwork to wade through.

Some insurance companies wouldn't quote for it, regarding the vehicle as a grey, seemed quite ludicrous as it came of the line at Burnaston.

I shall avoid the hassle in future.

dvla belfast IS QUITE DIFFERENT FROM DVLA SWANSEE SEE so it is seen as an import even though the sovereign is the same, you could or can? i dont know anymore, take the choice between keeping the northern ireland plate or having an age related plate applicable to GB,the cost was free,it therefore follows that on the v5c the date of import is different to the date of first registration
i said the other day but will repeat,if you are buying a high value car with an ex ni number plate it may be to hide serious accident damage first year of registration or even component changes that could make such a vehicle worthless, a full hpi gold check is the minimum and time is not of the essence

The date of 1st registration will be on form V5C(NI). Exactly the same as on GB 1st registered vehicles. As for the registration plates they only indicate the geographiclal (county or Belfast) location that the vehicle was first registered in. There is no indication on the DVA website that "importing" a vehicle from NI to GB would result in any different information being on the replacement V5 should you choose to do this.

Of course this (may) will not be the case if the vehicle is a grey or personal import into the UK.

Unfortunately, I don't have the original V5C(NI), as it passed through other hands in the UK mainland before it reached ours.

So you reckon it's a grey import CA?
