I put my car in for an mot at the end of Feb... the garage has now had it for nearly over 6 weeks!! They tell me that the emitions are too high, but dont seem to have a clue how to fix it or how long it will take. I'm not sure if they are having a laugh or this is a hard thing to sort out.
i rellay need my car back by easter, but they never seem to return my calls... advice please!! what should i do??

also as it's likely im going to need to hire a car because of them not doing the work can i make them pay for it?

Seems extraordinary to me a situation such as this could drift for six weeks.
You could make an appointment for an MOT with another garage, then go to original garage and ask/demand the return of your car and then drive it legally to the appointment.
You've been poorly treated by the first garage, but the chance of any redress is low, so it might be best to bite the bullet and move on.
All this assumes the first garage is still trading and your car is not locked in a compound somewhere...

Pay them a visit, collect the car from them and take it straight round to a Volkswagen franchised dealer.

Six weeks seems crazy, but that's as much down to you as it is down to them, really. If any garage can't find and solve the problem in 72 hours then it's time to move to one that can, unless they are genuinely waiting for parts to arrive from Outer Mongolia.

Very annoying. However, is it possible to go over to the garage and ask the service manager directly what's going on, and explain your position?

how do you know your car isnt as i type being used for taxiing/hired out /armed blaggs?

walk into the Garage unannounced and demand a explanation, your the customer and its your car, dont leave until you get a good one, and kick up a fuss if nesscary.
I have done it before, and I dont like been rude and I try not to be, but sometimes its the only way to get anwsers or something done.
and this might sound sad to somepeople but when ever my car goes into a garage I always make a note of the current milage when i drop it off, and compare it when it comes out - take a photo on a mobile phone or similar if neccssasy (sad i know but hey ho, thats what i like to do and it makes me happy)

Not sad at all, my lad does the same when he drops his rather special Subaru off at places other than his trusted expert (some 200 miles away).

thing is if you dont trust the garage to not use your wheels as the sandwich dinner special collecter then you really shouldnt be using that garage
i was looking for an eobd reader on a famous internet site the other week and came upon a mileage correction tool for vw"s for £70,think what you could do with that if you fancied a phwat in a customers car
