Should I get the warranty - AndrewMarc
53 plate 2004 Mondeo 2.0 LX £3000.

29k miles
full polar ford service history
purchasing from independant who specialises in high end motors
very clean and comig with 12 months MOT.

Warrently everything except wear and tear - wipers, brakes tyres etc

Offered 12 month 12k miles £290 or 18 month 18k miles including service in 12 months for £395

I am inclined to take it and think the 12 month is a little pointless as for £100 more I get a service and 6 months extra

I am ready to be shot down

Thanks

I wouldn't think twice about an add-on warranty for a car with that history. Ignore it and haggle for some money off.

At that price your already paying for a 5 star warranty.

Thanks for the replies

Sorry I am a little confused - Do you think the car is expensive or that the warrenty would be a waste of money or both?

As a general rule, I think customer's add-on warranties are a poor bet, given that MOST cars are reliable, especially if they have been maintained. You may be (very) unlucky and have to pay for an expensive repair - you are much more likely not to. A nicer way to hedge your bets is to put away (say) £20 a month in your piggy bank. After a year, when nothing has gone wrong, spend the money on something nice.

Insist on the warranty FOC and a tank of fuel.

I think the car is very cheap based on autotrader and parkers - where are these really cheap cars hiding?

The price sounds about right to me for a lowish mileage Lx.

I'd not bother with any warranty, but I'm quite happy to gamble on things like that.
