Hi i have had my xantia for over a year with no plroblems at all, i got in it today, turned the key after entering code and..... BANG!!! blue smoke appeared from the bonnet. upon looking or rather feeling around underneath just above the oil filter i found there was a plastic type pipe that appears to have engine oil residue inside and this has poured over the oil filter and with some force managed to spatter the radiator also.
there is also something that appears to have broken off and is hanging down in between what i assume is the cooling system pipes attatched to a rubber hose or wire sheathing. there was one other hose that was not attatched up near the top of the hoses that i pushed back on easily but had no clip to hold it in place. Someone has said that this assembly (hard plastic type box with the citroen logo on the left of it) has blown the pipe offcausing the problems???
he did say a strange this part is the (word begining with P and five sylables but i cannot remember it at all)!! and i am obviously concerned and now car less!!
Any explanations or ideas would be greatly appreciated indeed!!
its a 1.8i 16v petrol and was an excellent runner all round!!
Many thanks for any help

It sounds like you have had a backfire in the inlet manifold.(the black box with the Citroen logo on it.) I think you need someone local to you who knows what they are doing to have a look at it for you.

Thanks mjm i hope it is something simple like that, if a backfire that can do that is simple that is, anyway got garage coming out in th A.M to recover it if necessary but still got big call out fee due to type of recovery vehicle needed. Still cant all be bad ay, at least nobody can steal it overnight :P
ooO(hope i dont get fined for putting waste oil in the drain)

Hi,
i posted here a couple weeks ago reg my cars exploding engine parts. It was the plenum chamber, it was replaced by the garage at £240!! I have had problems since such as :
Engine warning light on then off then on then off for good.
Nasty petrol smell in car.
slight juddering during acceleration.
found pipes not tight and petrol squirting over Engine!!! (that was the petrol smell)fixed with £2 jubilee clip!!
After fixing the major petrol leak the juddering worsened!!!! I had trouble starting it the first few times it does go but it does go very slow and judders when u try to accelerate at a normal rate, i have to creep up to speed!!!
i have noticed that one of the tubes/hoses that were defineately attached before has been capped also?!? I have been advised this could well be the exhaust gas return and this would hamper performance??
once again i ask for help as i really want my car back to normal sad.gif
HELP, anyone?
Many thanks

It sounds to me as though they have somehow disconnected the turbo or the vacuum advance(favourite) which would account for your poor acceleration the pipe should go somewhere, can you look at a similar car and see where it went.

Hi Andy
Thanks for the advice, that is exactly what my dad said, sidle up to another xantia owner in Tesco Cpark and ask to look under the bonnet. Looks like i will have to do that as i am scared to take it back to the garage considering the state it was in on its return last time.
Many thanks

Surely the more relevant point is that you have paid to have a problem fixed and it hasn't been done satisfactorily.
Go back to the garage that fitted it and insist that the defective work is rectified.
|
hey screwloose
Thats what my dad said but im a bit worried considering the state it was in and the garage is 8 miles away in the middle of nowhere, the actually managed to mess up my mums brakes as well not long ago and the pipe was ruined fluid all over the place. i have no confidence in them any longer.
:(

>>the actually managed to mess up my mums brakes as well
So why on earth did you use them?
|
|
If it's that bad; then have they put the HT leads back on the right plugs?
What does it idle like?
|
It starts and idles no problem and is fine in lower gears really, but when i go into fourth at 30 mph it starts engine lagging and then judders up to speed sluggishly :(
my car was in the garage when we picked mums up so it was like a swap then mums brakes fluid was all over the car car park in tesco so they picked it up, fixed it and dropped it off again.
they seem like really nice guys and dont come across incompetant at all. im seriously upset about it all including my judge of character now :(
Thanks for your interest.

Makes you wonder if they've transposed the fuel pipes somewhere?
I'd still drop back and give them the chance to correct it.

Hi again, just been out to shops in it and its awful to drive it seems to be getting worse so i may have to go back to the garage after all. its jugging around terribly when going uphill, i can see where the hose was attatched that was part of the original fault as i actually held the hose reatatched it and traced it to the broken section underneath the plenum b4 takin it to the garage i even showed them the dangly bit as it were.
i dont understand transposed unless its in the musical context of transposing meaning to pitch notation up or down. sorry to sound stupid. its definately been capped off with a rubber hose that is sealed off at the plenum end. I'll call the garage tomorro or even take it to citroen first find out exactly whats what and then i can phone with an actual explanation so they cant waffly their way out of it saying its more econimical!!!!
Thanks
