Owner has to be present to collect new car?

Owner has to be present to collect new car? - maz64
Sorry if this is a daft question - I was going to pick up our new (used) car on Thursday, but in fact my wife is to be the owner. Does she have to be present to sign the V5 before we can drive the car away?

Techincally she should but you could sign it 'mickey mouse' and it would still get registered to her. The signature isnt very important as opposed to providing the correct address and name, which is the bit that needs to be right.

Ok, thanks Stu. Having thought about it a bit more, taking into account insurance and collecting the VED, I think it would be simpler if less convenient (taking time off work) if she came along as well.

The salesman wont give a toss however she could sign it before you went to collect your new car
