Hi all
Just bought a 406 HDI 90 with water leak, traced it to the thermostat housing.
I have put everything back except the turbo pipes and now it won't start!
Turns over, fuel is is priming but nothing.
Also I noticed the immobiliser icon on the dash does not come on although the bulb is working? I cannot remember weather it did before ony had it for 1 day.
ANY IDEAS I AM PULLING MY HAIR OUT THANKS

Check that water hasn't got into the crank sensor plug.
|
It doesnt have one as far as i can see
|
i tried dosconnecting the ecu and see if the light comes on and it does, so i guess is not the immobiliser.
|
also last night when i got everything off the radiator fan turned it self on altho the car was off and cold?
|
It most certainly does have a crank [and a cam] sensor; [won't start with either disconnected] the cooling fan will default to "on" if the brown temp sensor is disconnected.
|
thanks, do you know where they are as i am currently without the haynes manual
thanks

The cam sensor read off the back of the cam pulley and the crank sensor is on the top of the clutch housing, just slightly to the back.
|
that is where i looked but the only two wires going there are:
oil level
speed sensor

I recently had the same problem after fitting a t-belt kit and it was the fuel inertia cut off switch...red rubber button located usually on either drivers or passengers side at the bulkhead ( just behind the engine bay ) and if you press it and you hear it click down it then is de-activated and will let the engine start... its worth a try.
