01 1.8 Engine temperature - miegas
Hi there,

I wonder whether the middle position of the temperature indicator on the clock is normal or is it too much? for example i'm driving only a 2 or 3 miles to the shop and it gets in the middle position on the clock that fast.Is that normal?

I have Focus 2001 1.8 LX hatchback.

Thanks in advance!

That engine get's all it's networked engine temp data from a cylinder head temp sensor - not a coolant temp one.

They do rise significantly faster, because they are measuring the temp of the metal, not the water, much nearer the source of the heat.

Thank you for your answer. But does that what you just said apply only to Ford Focus or any other car as well?Because my brother has an Escort, and the temperature indicator never reaches the middle, regardless of how long or hard he drives...

It's not unique to the Focus; but CHT sensors are not common and the Escort won't have one.

Maybe he's got the wrong coolant temp sensor fitted, or the thermostat is tiring.
