The superb Humax PVR 9200T (has a twin Freeview tuner and 160GB hard drive) will be perfect. See:

Alternatively, one of the various Panasonic models will also prove excellent, but will probably be a bit dearer; however it would integrate well with a Panny TV.

You can record Freeview programmes to a VCR via a Freeview set top box (you have to use channel L1 or similar on the VCR); all the Freeview STB does, apart from receive digital signals, is to convert them back to analogue (otherwise you wouldn't be able to watch the programmes on an analogue TV).

Your Freeview TV should have an analogue tuner as well as digital so that you can watch any VCR recordings or past tapes.

dont need a tuner for that - the scart will do that job. Albeit still analogue.

I second that.

Bought one last year and it is superb. Excellent picture and good features. You can sometimes record two programmes and watch a third, if on the same mux.

It looks absolutely the sort of thing we were looking for and with a two year warranty and Robbie recommending it as well it looks ideal.I have not come across Humax before - but looking at the website they appear to be Korean made.

I've forwarded the datails on to SWMBO who has the final decision on things like this.

According to Pricerunner, Comet are selling these for £149.99. They normally retail at about £180.

maplin are selling a dvr with no hard drive (you put a standard fit one yourself in, if you are anything like me you will have 5 of the things in the celler from 2gb upwards)anyway its twin tuner and is £69.99 a bargain me thinks,a it dunt doo dvd tho

They are indeed a Korean firm; their Freeview set top box (F2-FOXT) has been around for just over three years and is still the benchmark for this type of product.

My best mate has sold dozens of Humax LCD TVs, PVR recorders and F2-FOXT at his independent audio/video/appliances outlet and has examples of all of them in his own home - customers are delighted with the products.

By the way, the Bush PVR that gained a 100 per cent reliability rating in a recent edition of a very well known consumer magazine was, in fact, a rebadged Humax...:-)
