if i sell a vehicle ( private sale ) should i write out a receipt to say " sold as seen, inspected driven and approved by mr .... for the sum of..... or is it a waste of time because if its a privite sale its sold as seen anyway.
i always do, but when i buy a car, nobody seems to bother.
so whats the correct way to sell a vehicle??
many thanks

I would also expect it to say "this car being mine to sell".

I wonder what good a receipt would do for either side of the transaction? If its a dodgy dealer hiding behind a private sale, he'll write what you like on the paper, it's all part of the deceit anyway. Or if you, as a purchaser, take it back, the presence of a receipt isn't likely to influence a refund is it?

I've sold 2 cars and never bothered with a receipt. It's buyer beware and sold as seen by default in a private sale. I think the sold as seen might be best left unsaid. If I turned up to buy a car privately and the seller wanted me to sign something that said along the lines of "sold as seen, no comeback" I would be put off. I'd take it as reading "When the car goes wrong, and it will (that's why I'm selling it!), it's your problem."

Always give a receipt with a date and time on, if only to prove it wasn't yours when it got snapped by the gatso!
