Probably not as much fun driving fast on a dual carriageway. Sounds like a lunatic however with no proper lighting to boot.

Say its most likely to be the phone. Time and time again you see them on the motorway, suddenly pulling into inside lane cos the phone has went, or another common occurence is you will see their brake lights coming on for no reason.
These are the same drivers who will claim the phone isn't a distraction to them....

There are an awful lot of people that come rocketing past you and then 10m. up the road you pass them cruising quite slowly.

I've seen this many times and I think it's a speed limit thing - people take the most outrageous risks to overtake, but then sit rigidly at the limit.
I used to drive a lot in N Wales and this was very common occurrence on the twisty single carriageway A roads. I?ve been unwilling to try to keep up with some overtakers as they fly around blind bends, only to catch them on the next straight bit doing 70. Of course, if caught, I would get done for exceeding the speed limit, they would get off as dangerous driving is much harder to prove.
The BMW was probably going at 60 because many drivers think the dual carriageway limit is 60 - there's one near me that has a speed camera and most drivers slow to 60 for it.

Anyone who has ever tried to make progress in low-powered cars knows all about these people who effortlessly accelerate away at the lights and then dawdle down the road well below the speed limit. They also brake down hills and then accelerate up the opposite slope. Causes wear on cars and nervous systems and burns fuel, but they don't know or care.

The opposite point of view on this: I have a car that handles great and can overtake someone dawdling at 45 or 50 in a national speed limit very easily. In fact I often do this when it's safe to do so. I then take the corners at the same speed if it's safe to do so and there is no limit posted. This is also legal and I believe safe.
However what often happens is I'll have overtaken a number of drivers unable or unwilling to drive at the speed limit on the twisty bits but as soon as we come to a dual carriageway they'll eventually manage to muster enough speed up to come past me well in excess of 80mph. I then have to repeat the process of getting back past these mobile road blocks when we return to the bendy bits.
Mostly I don't care and just regard it as more of a chance to practice safe overtaking but I'm sure that some of these numpties (the ones that flash their lights and give the old Gareth Hunt) think I'm somehow trying to wind them up.
In case there are some of them here- I'm not, what I'm doing is making safe progress, within the law in a high performance car. Maybe, just maybe you should try sticking to the law yourselves before getting all upset that I had the temerity to overtake you.

Yea does sound normal for a bmw / 3 series driver : Its all about ego.... i am able to overtake you slow people and i want to show off how macho my car is, just like me.
I like the overtake but to do it on purpose and to do it when theres traffic ahead is pretty stupid and is only done to show off.
