AFAIK only Direct Line will do this.

But no harm in asking.

My wife was insured as a named driver on my insurance with Privilege. I had 6 years no claims, but only 2 of those years were with this company. When she got her own car I told her to ring them and ask if they would do her a good deal since it was the second car from the household with them.
They gave her the equivalent of a 5 years no claims discount, and said that if she was still with them and had no accidents by the end of the first year, they would treat it as a true 5 years.
Excellent service in my book, and part of the reason why, having never stayed with a company for over a year before, I have now been with Privilege for 4 years. (Their price has always been competitive, if not the best, over this period too.

I am with Direct Line.
My partner got my full 65%? NCD and got to keep it after 1 year claim free.

If you do select Direct Line, watch the automatic renewal price for the following year.
They have sent me renewal notices at vastly inflated prices for both car and house insurance.
Easily sorted by cancelling and buying on line or a phone call quoting the web price though.

Very happy with the service and price. I suppose you can't blame them for trying to make extra money from the forgetful/lazy.
