Yaris Seat Belt Release - helicopter
Last night SWMBO was dropping a friend off in her Yaris.

When friend tried to unlock the seatbelt it would not release resulting in friend having an undignified scramble to climb out of the locked belt .

I've tried spraying into the clasp with WD40 to get it to release without success.

SWMBO went to the local garage (Citroen but used to be Toyota) and they are talking £50 + for a new clasp plus fitting and having to break the clasp to release.

Anybody had this problem or any bright ideas as to how to release it before I shell out for a replacement.

When my dad bought his Yaris last year, I am pretty sure that the salesman told us about a feature of one of the rear seatbelts where by you need the car key to be able to unlock the belt by pushing a little lever / button on the lock.

Seatbelts MUST release when you press the RED button, not need a key. That is in the seat-belt legislation.

May not be relevent, but had a problem with a rear seat belt on my clio a while back.
The buckle and stalk would'nt engage, as the car is still under warranty was just on the point of contacting the dealer when i remembered that some months previously some ned put a brick through the front nearside window. On closer inspection found a small piece of glass deep down in the staik which eventually removed with a drinking straw attached to the vacuum cleaner.

Thanks for the suggestions but it isn't looking hopeful. It is the first problem of any type that she has had with this Yaris.

I'll have another go at the weekend but it looks like the garage are going to get my dosh on Monday.

Why not visit a proper Toyota garage and see what they say? They're supposed to have good customer service so you might get the fix for free.

Especially as it is obviously safety related and is simple, cheap and easy to fix.
Any customer service guy would soon get it sorted.

The 'key release' is for the end of the middle belt so that it can be fully retracted and (in my 2006 version) stored in the plastic recepticle in the roof whilst not in use.

Thats it! I thought I was going mad. Thought it strange that there might be a key release to the clasp!
