Corsa clutch cable adjusting, where ple? - CarBeginner
Hi,
my 97 Corsa is crunching going into reverse and stiff going into other gears. Have read that this is common and is usually easily fixed by adjusting the clutch cable nut, but I can't find it (not sure what I'm looking for to be honest). Can anyone please point out where it is (but please not too technical as my car knowledge is very limited!).

Also, how do I do it please? Is it a straight forward loosen the nut, pull the cable tight, then tighten the nut?

Providing of course the clutch is cable operated and not hydraulic - the clutch cable connects to the top of the gearbox and the adjuster at the end of the cable. Remove the locking clip (if fitted - they tend to fall off) and pull the cable slightly forward and rotate the nut on the thread to tighten.

For reference, the clutch pedal should be either at the same height as the brake pedal, or very slighty higher when the cable has been adjusted correctly.

The adjuster will be on the end of the clutch fork, which is a metal bar on top of the geabox.

How high does the pedal sit relative to the brake pedal?

Where is the clutch biting? At the top, middle, or end of the pedal travel?

Unlike most cars, there isn't an upper stop to the clutch pedal on Vauxhalls, so you can see the state of the clutch adjustment just by looking at the height of the pedal.

Typically on Vauxhalls, you need to set the clucth cable so the clutch pedal sits approximately level with the brake pedal - there is the official method whereby you set it by taking measurements from the rim of the steering wheel, and adjust the stroke, but it is usually not necessary to be so pedantic.

Thanks Number_Cruncher and Dynamic Dave for the fast repsonses, I'll check out the height of the pedals later and the biting points (don't have car nearby at mo), I'm pretty sure it's a cable clutch not a hydrolic one as I seem to remember it having something like this happen before (sorted by garage).

thanks again guys, tightened the cable, found it easy, had someone push the clutch down whilst I looked for movement under the bonnet, it had a kindof bolt that I twisted a bit to tighten it, seems to go in gears ok (no crunching etc). Will keep you posted long term,
