Resins and Scotchguard - Woody
Just ordered a new Octavia.

The dealer called me today and recommended I have 'Diamond Bright' applied to the ouside and some sort of Scotchguard protection for the inside, all applied by them (two coats) for £295.

He claimed it prevents damage from bird droppings and the cloth interior becomes stain proof. He was a bit pushy if I'm honest (completely opposite to the very patient salesman who sold me the car).

Your thoughts please? I will probably keep the car 5 years and the colour is Silver.

Keep the cash and spend it on Meguiars and a buffer (If you're lazy like me).

Much better spent.

the census was its a waste of money and you could do it all yourself for less than half a crown
(try a forum search :-) )

As above - I have been conned into spending money on supagaurd previously - I was not that impressed.
I subsequently put a couple of coats of autoglym (or similar - I just happen to use autoglym) on and did just as good a job.

Buy a kit on eBay for £20 and DIY.

I'd like to know if their guarantee has ever paid out - I would guess they demand evidence that the conservor has been used every month, and you can only buy it drect at great expense.

Suspicions confirmed.

Many thanks.

A forum search was an option, but I did not anticipate any time to do so and he is phoning tomorrow for by Debit Card details. He won't be a happy bunny will he?

A shame because the dealership experience has been excellent up to this point.

Complain to the dealer principle that their tactics/pushiness nearly cost him a sale.

Diamondbrite kits start at 2.99 on eBay.
Scotchgard fabric protector cans (x2) are 5.14.

I can´t vouch for the effectiveness of either product. Other waxes and polishes have been extensively reviewed on this and other sites. Lots of info out there, nearly all of it put up by people not trying to sell you overpriiced stuff!

may be an interesting start. Enjoy the Octavia!

Couldn't comment on the cost because mine was done for free, however the car looks absolutely splendid on the outside and has so far repelled the effects of my daughters on the carpet.

On the other hand if the salesman was pushy I would buy it somewhere else if I wanted to buy at all.

p.s. my car is silver.

For how long, and what chance would you have of compensation if it failed to perform?

>>For how long,

Dunno. Mine was done two months ago and until now most stuff comes off in the rain, never mind a wash. (I don't do car wash).

Not since your aerial got snapped off I bet ;o)

My Vectra was last washed approx 2 months ago, and still looks clean. Last time it saw any polish (MER) was back in June or July of this year. Just goes to prove that silver paint is low maintenance, regardless of whether it's been polished with regular car polish or the stuff the garage tries to fob people off with.

1) I meant - I never wash a car, rather than never use a car wash
2) I dunno about sticking the Merc through a car wash with a rag top
3) Your memory is a shade too long. I thought that aerial incident had gone away.

I can't rememeber the name of the product but there's one advertised in Practical classics that claims to be better than other high gloss sealers. If I can find out the name maybe someone has some experience of it.

I have only tried Autoglyms so can't comment on this.

I have the memory of one of those large grey animals with the long trunk, whose name I can't put a finger on right now ;o)
