mondeo diesel Mk 2 High Pitch Noise - Adam Young
I have a relative problem, although the car has just been serviced it runs really well with no problems, when I press the accelarator I hear a high pitched noise from under the bonnet, and the noise seems to stablise at 3000rpm in otherwards the pitch not getting higher in tone, not sure if this would be a vacuum leak, or could it be the turbo on its way out. As I said the car runs perfectly, no loss of power at all, its covered 120,000 miles starts first time every morning. Any ideas what this high pitch noise could be or whinning??

Mine has always done this since I got it. It only happens under acceleration (suggesting it's the turbo) and on mine gets drowned out by the engine over about 3,000 RPM. As the engine uses less than half a litre of oil every 6,000 miles or so, pulls okay on boost, and doesn't smoke excessively, I haven't really given it a second thought. It's done 23k like it and hasn't changed or got any worse.

The only thing I've noticed is what looks like slight oil deposits under the EGR valve (little round thing on the inlet manifold near the cambelt cover) - was told by a Ford mechanic that "they all do that" and not to worry about it. Whether it has anything to do with this noise.

Cheers

OK thanx for that info, umm I still think I will get it checked out as it has only just started doing it, plus it has started to get more louder, especially on long journeys, plus the fact its still a bit erratic on cold starts despite the glow plugs got changed and it hesitates a little on low revs, or just cruising at 30mph in 3rd gear or 2nd gear, if anyone knows the cause of this extra info would be a great help cheers.
