Mother in Law drives a Space Wagon with the 145 bhp 2.4 litre four-cylinder GDI engine. It's an 02, with 45K on the clock. Just been serviced by main agent. She was complaining that the oil pressure light was coming on. I've just taken it for a ten mile run, and, sure enough, when at the last traffic lights befoire home, revs dropped to 800 (correct tickover?) and oil pressure light came on. Have checked oil level, and it is fine. M.I.L. is twitchy: her last (earlier model) space wagon had the cam belt let go, even after full service history, so she doesn't want major engine surgery again...

Well you need to determine whether it really is suffering from low oil pressure or whether it is just a faulty pressure sensor. The former is obviously serious and needs sorting out asap, the latter is just a niggly problem that is easily resolved.
Was the oil pressure light coming on before it was serviced? Is it as simple as something like the garage have filled it with a too thin a grade of oil?

It may be a pressure relief valve sticking as it's just after a service but why buy another Mitsubishi just after one with a major engine failure?-once bitten,twice shy!!

Given that this is S.W.M.B.O. x 2, who am I to make such suggestions? Actually I couldn't wish for a nicer M.I.L. which is why I don't wish her to be "bitten" again...

Yes, Oil Pressure light was coming on prior to service: It had just started to. M.I.L. clearly told them about it when she took it in for the service, so presumably not too thin a grade of oil.

There's a good chance that it's the oil pressure sender /switch playing up. Most garages would change this as a first diagnostic step. Better garages would check the oil pressure with a proper gauge during the change.
