Best car for £10K - catalyst2
We need to buy a car (at least 1.5 litre), either a Vauxhall, Mazda or Suzuki (Fiat maybe) for roundabouts 10K. We will be doing less than 8,000 miles/yr in it, mainly semi-rural driving. We have a dog so a sort of long-ish hatchback would be better.

What car would you recommend?

Are Vauxhalls reliable?

Can I mention the Citroen c4 1.6 diesel? Especially the VTR+ (not the coupe, just the hatch)

It is a lovely car and you should be able to get a good deal on a late 2nd hand model. I have had mine a year and I love it. Not many on the road, so still has that rarity value of a head turner. Plenty of oomph and economy.

I wonder why you chose those three makes. There are lots of good Vauxhalls around, although many are bought by companies so you have a greater chance of getting one that's been thrashed by a rep or by hire car customers.

Citroens have a good number of fans on this forum so think abiut them - C$ or C% if you want something bigger. They depreciate fast so could be good value secondhand.

I'd look at a Skoda Octavia (hatch or estate) or a Mazda 6, Toyota Avensis or Nissan Primera.
