Afternoon all!,

Mondeo is due for MOT at the end of next month, noticed the tyres are all down just under 2mm, so im going to get them all replaced. I currently have Goodyear NCT5's all round. I've checked Blackcircles for prices and they seem VERY reasonable on price compared to other big branded chains.
Anyway point is, there are a few different brands of tyre within my budget, which would you guys/gals go for, or what experiences have you had with these lot....

Goodyear NCT5'S (got them now, but they wore down pretty quick)
Dunlop SP2000E
Dunlop SP SPort 01
Pirelli P6000's
Hankook K104 (never heard of them??) or
Firestone TZ200

There all around £64-70 a tyre so not sure which ones.

Thanks in advance.....

I have SP2000E's all round on my BMW 530i Sport. They were the OEM tyre from new and the previous owner simply stuck with the same make/model when replacing them.

They are terrible. The DSC light comes on far too often when accelerating in the wet etc, they do not give me much confidence and I've experienced aquaplaning at speeds as low as 45-50mph. They are not a patch on the Goodyear Eagle F1's I had on the Mondeo and Dad has on his 530d.

I'm going to be junking the entire set and fitting Eagle F1's even though the fronts still have approx 10k left in them and the rears are good for another 3k..

I've always had the same experience with Dunlops, they lasted forever, but seemed to be Teflon coated in the wet !

I recently bought 4 new Michelin Primacy HP tyres 205/55/16 V for my son.
Prices inc everything all for the same tyres;
Costco £77.53
National £82.40
ATS £85.00
Blackcircles £94

I went to Costco!

As to your question, I would get either Michelin, Goodyear, Continental or my favorite Pirelli P 7's. If you shop around you should get the P 7's for about £65.
Do not get P 6000's, Dunlop's, Firestone's or Hankook's, they are not as good as the ones I have recommended IMHO!!!

Hooray QM. Yet someone else who has discovered that the internet sites are one of the most expensive ways of buying tyres. Shame you didn`t get a quote from a good independent though.
If you are around the midlands Leef the going rate for 205/55vr16 is as follows

Avon ZV3 £54 Bridgestone ER300 £69 Continental Premium Contact 2 £71
Firestone TZ200/SZ80 £56 Goodyear Hydragrip/NCT5 £57 Michelin £72
Pirelli P6000 £62 P7 £69 Uniroyal £56 Dunlop SP2000 £58 SP01 £69
Kumho/Marshal £49 All prices include everything.

My recommendation Bridgestone or Goodyear......

Hope this helps !

I've always used independants they are always in my experience cheaper than the internet places.
When I had my Mondeo I asked the service manager at the local dealership what tyres he recommended. Always Goodyear was the response! I'd go either F1 GSD3 or Hydragrip or whatever the NCT5 equivalent is.

I'm glad you have said the above tyrexpert. I tried to ring a firm in Derby for a quote, but after waiting about 5 minutes for someone to answer, I gave up.
If I owned a company that sells to the public I would try to make sure the phone is answered promply!
My wife's car tyres will soon need replacing, perhaps I will try ringing again.

I'll have a chat with an independent my dad uses and see what prices he comes up with. I'm still none the wiser as to what tyre is best, seems to be a few conflicting views :-) Thanks for your input guys, much appreciated. Thanks for the prices tyreexpert I've got a good base to work off now when haggling in Manchester :)
