Against my better judgement my father let the garage change the worn original fitment Dunlops on his 2001 Astra for a couple of Aurora tyres. Haven't previously heard of them before, and google doesn't throw too much up about them, neither does a forum search.
The only answer I could get from my father was that they were cheap ( < £40 a corner fitted ) and the garage said that they fit quite a few of them to various cars. Until I get around to driving his Astra I couldn't possibly comment on how good or bad they are. But, I have a nasty suspicion they won't be as good as the Dunlops that were previously on there.

Yes, heard of them. I believe they are Korean and may be a sub-brand of Hankook.

Very common in both North America and Germany classed as a high performance and ultra high quality tyre.They have a web site if you google for it.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but after finally giving the Astra a good workout...
Roadnoise wise, the same; if not marginally quiter.
In dry conditions it handles just as well as it did on the original Dunlops.
However, in the wet it is significantly noticable that the handling has taken a turn for the worse. Whereas before with the Dunlops I could enter a roundabout and zip around it quite quickly with bags of confidence, now all I get though is loads of understeer with the Auroras fitted ;o(
Even my dad has commented that they have less grip. Well, I did try and tell him to wait for me to order some Dunlops off the internet for him, but the garage managed to twist his arm with the cheap price.

If the Aurora's are worse than Dunlop's in the wet, they must be very bad. I have had Dunlop tyres in the past and hate them, they are useless.
Try Michelin, Pirelli, Goodyear, Continental, they are much better.
I am thinkind of getting Conti Premium 2's, I have read that they are good. Has anyone tried them yet?

I've had several sets of Aurora types fitted to my Toyota. Very cheap, good levels of grip and ride comfort. The only downside was that they tended to wear out quicker than the Dunlops that were originally fitted.

So I wonder what the difference is between the Auroras and the Hankooks then? The Hankooks I have fitted to my cars are slightly noisier than average, but last for ages (40K on the Accent; rears 50K and counting, Nissan 25K all round and no signs of wearing out just yet!).

Amazing that Aurora tyres are related to Hankook. The Transit Connect van at work has Hankooks fitted and handles really well in the wet, whereas the Astra with Auroras on doesn't give any confidence at all in the wet.

Not that cheap either,I had four Avon Enviros fitted last week(185/65/14) for £152,all inclusive(and all four balanced),at National Tyres.Quiet on the motorway,havn't worked out if they do save any fuel yet though.

I'm guess that Aurora is a sub-brand of Hankook and when Hankook have moved on to their next generation of tyres the moulds etc from the older generation are retained and used to produce 'Aurora' tyres. Many tyre manufacturers use this technique.
