2007 Car of the Year - type's'
The shortlist for COTY 2007 is below and the winner will be announced on 13th Nov.
Shall we 'the real experts' have a vote before then and give a reason why.

Citroën C4 Picasso, Fiat Grande Punto, Ford S-Max, Honda Civic, Opel/Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 207, Skoda Roomster and Volvo C30.

As much as I would like to say Civic I think the S max should win it for combining practicality and driving experience.
2007 Car of the Year - Citroënian {P}
Well...not the Punto or 207, both bloated versions of earlier cars

Not the C4 Picasso as the dealerships/service depts are shockingly bad (in my experience)

Civic is many different cars in many different countries, so not that.

The C30 looks like a 480 in a frock, so no.

So, Roomster, S-Max or Corsa?

Roomster will have bad visibility for the driver due to those b-pillars so no.

S-Max clever, well put together and stylish. Apparently a good drive too.

But I'd say the Corsa. Funky small car done well that will appeal to people in all walks of life.

Can't believe I've gone for the Vauxhall....

I do hope it's not the Civic. That appalling rear visibility is dangerous - there's no oither word for it.

I agree with Citroenian's list of 3:

- Roomster - an original thought on the family car theme

- Corsa - all-round competence, according to the road tests, and rated better than the Punto or 207

- S-Max - probably the best compromise between estate and prople-carrier.

I'd say the S-Max, but narrowly over the other two.

The Fiat will win.

The Fiat always wins when the model is even remotely competitive.

Corsa - Ha, doesn't even have a water temp gauge....

boring list : flair nil points...

Er, why is it COTY 2007 anyway?
2007 Car of the Year - Xileno {P}
I had forgotten that the 2003 winner was the Megane.
Obviously a lot of sense in COTY afterall :-0

From that link, there's been so rubbish getting the award hasn't there? Horizon, Alpine even the Renault 9. What a dull car from a manufacturer that can produce much more interesting designs. Where was Le Quement back then???
2007 Car of the Year - stevied
Alpine was a very good looking car for it's time..... pity about the rattly engine (1442?). I know it was based on the same block as the Simca 1301/1501 engine, a car which la famille Davies were lucky enough to own in the late 70s.....

Starter for ten.. where is the fuel filler cap on a Simca 1501?
2007 Car of the Year - Xileno {P}
Front wing.

Behind the numberplate?

You owned a car that you couldn't fill up? ;-)
2007 Car of the Year - stevied
Ha!

I couldn't fill it up, I was too busy being eight... but my dad could. Yes, it's behind the numberplate, well done!

Our neighbour said that he wished to thank us for owning a Simca, as it had saved him the expense of buying an alarm clock. My dad was working in Telford, so got up very early. Our neighbour got up when my dad left! Rattle rattle rattle.

Haven't seen one for years.... I bet there's none left in the UK.

>>I couldn't fill it up, I was too busy being eight... but my dad could.<<

No need to be sarcy;-) I would have taken longer making it more specific but I wanted to be the first one to get it. I like being first. Doesn't happen very often so I have to snatch it whenever I can.

It's a list of boring motors all of which are undoubtedly fit for purpose and a lot better than their equivalents would have been twenty years ago... nothing more to be said.

Isn't there a rule that says the winner has to be French or Italian? It also "has" to be a mass market car.
2007 Car of the Year - jase1
And look at the sheer number of cars on that list that turned out to be total unreliable carp.

Loads of Fiats, NSU Ro80, SD1, the Alpine, Horizon (god that was a bad car), Lancia Delta, Alfas, 307....

My dad has owned a fair number of these and funnily enough, he's always having trouble. Hey ho.
2007 Car of the Year - stevied
I would hesitate at calling the RO80 carp... unreliable, yeah, but trailblazing. Look how much it looks like the 1983 winner!!

The Delta is not a bad car either.... spawned a few rally cars n that....

307 and Horizon you can have! : )

Right - Car Of The Year - Right.

What are we /I supposed to do? It is a toally political decision - just like The Eurovision Song Contest.

So The Sportmobile Widget XS is The Car Of The Year. Does that mean that it will be practical, reliable good residuals? Somehow I think not.

Another complete waste of time, space and money.

Whoops! Why have I just typed that?
2007 Car of the Year - AlanGowdy
Have a look at the cars that have won COTY over the years and it's obvious that it is either a) politically loaded or b) decided by incompetents. Possibly a) and b) both apply.

My choice would be S-max.
2007 Car of the Year - madf
I think the jurors should be forced to drive the winning car as their only transport for a year .

That will sort then out...

no gain no pain or summat like that...

Citroën C4 Picasso, Fiat Grande Punto, Ford S-Max, Honda Civic, Opel/Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 207, Skoda Roomster and Volvo C30.

I would go for the S-Max, amazingly good looking for a people carrier, and great value too. The Civic's styling is something new, bit showy for my tastes, but it would also be a worthy winner.
