I am thinking of getting a 530d, I don't know too much about cars so a friend asked me to use an RAC inspection, they want £200ish,
Is it better do you think, for me to pay an indy specialist 2hrs of labour to check the car out?

I would think so. I've heard very mixed reports of the general checks. Just find a good indy. bmwland ?
the aa/rac probably include an hpi check as well.

take it to an indy bmw specialist who do mots. then one hour to get mot items checked out(i.e. ask them to run it through a mock mot while not connected to the dvla computer), and one hour at for them to check out non-mot items should cover it.

You may as well get it ticketed whilst you're at it. Indie dealer any time - specialist cars I would argue - personally. Cracking motor, make sure its coolant and brake fluid changes are up to date, use only proper diesel. If you buy it - enjoy.

Use only BMW approved fluids all round.

that is subject to the inspections and the subsequent negotiations to his satisfaction, khizman decides to buy it !

You're right of course, I ran away with myself there.
