Someone else other than me refueling the car when the pump is on the nearside and the filler cap is on the offside.

What's unusual about that! I do it all the time. It's very frustrating to be stuck in a long queue at the petrol station when there are plenty of pumps free. Hoses are plenty long enougth to reach.

Local bus company fill their vehicles (big single deckers) at one of my local garages, you should see the mess. I'm sure they would take more care if they were paying for it themselves.
On a completely different subject (but related to mess /messy vehicles in general), why is it that in Switzerland, you never see a grotty bin lorry (you see clean ones). They must hose them down at the end of each shift.
But there again you never see much litter there either, (plenty of graffiti on the railway bridges though).

I was waiting for someone on a car park next to a petrol station when some lad with trackies and Rockports on (cool, I know) calmly drives a blue M reg Escort up to a pump, gets out, and then legs it like a bat out of hell. That piqued my interest.
It got better when a completely different lad ran over to it 3 minutes later and hammered it away from the petrol station taking out cones and a sign!

The pay station located down several steps from pump level at a site,( recently closed,) in Kingston.
The pumps were in the open with no canopy and no big logo/price display.
All due to not obscuring the view from flats behind the site.
|
But surely the flats that are going to be built on the site will obscure the view of the flats behind.........

The person behind the checkout not being on the phone!
I was at one of the Gatwick filling stations a couple of weeks ago.
There was a queue at the desk due to problems identifying the pump numbers.
Someone had painted the posts supporting the canopy and yes the pump numbers could no longer be identified from the desk. You can guess some of the conversations... its the silver one over there etc...
The unhappy staff had no time to be on they phone.

Several years ago an OAP started to fill his car up with the wrong fuel, the attendant ran out and warned him, much mutterings but then it was noticed that his front near side tyre was flat. The attendant once more went out and told him to get it fixed. The OAP swore that all and sundry were out to rip him off and promptly drove off up a busy road lurching all over the place.
Just before leaded petrol vanished from the forecourts, two OAPs drove in with a brand new car and tried to fill it with leaded petrol. The nozzle would not fit and they struggled, so the attendant went to help, it was pointed out that their car must use unleaded petrol as it had a catalyst. No, it had to be leaded because they got more supermarket points due to the increased cost of the leaded fuel. At that the point the attendant left them to their own devices. I often wonder how much their first MOT would have cost.

But surely the flats that are going to be built on the site will obscure the view of the flats behind.........
Ironically, since the filling station closed, the whole site has a very tall solid fence all round it, that certainly , very significantly obsures the view.
I have just checked and the site is still for sale at £2.2M.

The best thing I ever saw was Mr cool driving onto the busy forecourt and upto the pump at 50mph (slight exageration - but it was fast) window down music blaring, elbow on the open window & one handed steering- you get the picture. Now petrol pumps tend to be perched on a raised level with a kerb around them - he hit the kerb with his rear wheel as he swung it round & damaged his alloy and all the air escaped from his tyre in one go - he looked a complete plonker - I though it was hilarious - he did not take kindly to my laughing but I could not control myself.
