No worries - I worked out what you meant.
The work was:
- 50k service
- Replace coolant pipe
- New pads at front
- New pads and discs at back (discs had corroded)
Total bill was £710. I'm not disputing the work done (the brakes were slightly less than reassuring before!) but I'm sure it would have been cheaper at a Toyota dealer or independant. I'm planning on selling the car in the next 12 months and my original thought was whether it would make a difference to the car's value if the log book/receipts all had Lexus stamps on them.
All the best,

service, pads and a coolant pipe - £710 !
*cough* *cough* *cough* splutter *cough*

I wouldn't pay extra for full dealer service history over a full independant service history.

If you had extended your warranty, I think it would have only covered the coolant pipe. The rest are due to wear and tear / and classed as consumables.

For a Lexus or other premium car, I expect that full manufacturer's service history will make the car more saleable, but may not actually increase its value. For a volume manufacturer, I doubt it will make any difference so long as you can demonstrate the car was properly maintained.
Put it this way: FiL is on his second BMW 3 series, bought at 3 years old from a BM main dealer with with full BM service history. Its up for replacement soon, and he won't trust a car that's been outside the dealer network (whether he's right is another question). But the Focus that hauls the dogs about was chosen simply because it had a service history that could be verified - didn't matter whether it was serviced by Ford or not. Same went for the Cavalier that preceeded it.

Sold my Lexus without full Lexus history - last couple were an independent.
As I've always found when selling every car I've ever owned, they cared not a fig about main dealer history, (and in fact on this occasion gave me 2k over what I was expecting from research, which cheered me inordinately, especially as the replacement was about a thousand under what it ought to have been). Caveat - every car I've ever sold has been outside manufacturer's warranty.
As to getting a Lexus serviced at a Toyota dealer you'll be hard pushed to find one that will do it I think. "Not allowed to touch 'em, guv'nor, has to be done at a Lexus dealer", where of course labour rates are somewhat higher! Even though in many cases (my local being one of them) they in fact drive it from the Lexus dealer where you booked it in to the Toyota dealer next door where the Toyota mechanic then works on it...

At the complete other end of the spectrum, when I was looking to buy a XUD Peugeot 306, I was pretty much overcome by seeing a full main dealer service history for a 10 year old car. It had all the receipts and all the stamps - an awful lot for 100,000 miles and 10 years.
Noting the history (esp. cambelt change, oil at every 6,000 and coolant & brake fluid at every 2yrs) I was happy to pay £200 over the odds. Worth it for me, but certainly not worth it for the guy who paid out thousands over 10 years.

its a local independent everytime for me. still wasn't a problem when it needed £1000+ warranty work doing. good job with the 5yr warranty
