Mondeo 04 TDCI oil filter - 65BRoadster
Hello

Can anyone tell me where the oil filter is located on the 130 TDCI mondeo. 04 plate zetec S.
Having bought the oil and filter from Halfords I am at a complete loss. It isnt on ramps yet so I may yet find it but the weird thing is that the oil filter is an open paper thing looking much like an SU air filter although about 3" across. I assume there is a can somewhere in which it fits. Any ideas please let me know.

cheers
Matt

Is this car still under any sort of warranty?

Well it should be but the previous ( 2nd) owner took it for its first service at 12000 at Halfords. As far as the log book is concerned there are no other stamps. It is now at 21000 miles. I would have assumed it should have been serviced at around 5000 or whatever the first one should be. They refused to replace a recent split intercooler hose under warranty because of this. Therefore I would say the warranty is void. Which kind of worries me given all the troubles I hear about these engines now I've bought the car! My thinking was to replace the oil and filter with the halfprice turbo diesel 5w30 oil from Halfords and essentially flush it through. I will book it in for a proper full service in a few weeks when I assume they will change the oil and filter again.

First service should be 12,500 m.;the Ford warranty only says that services must be carried out in line with Ford requirements not necessarily at Ford dealers.

Check your service book for the service intervals on this particular engine. Most late Mondeo's are on 12,500 mile intervals - there may be intermediate ones on the diesels. [Someone will give you chapter and verse; servicing is sooo not my thing.] If there isn't an intermediate needed, then the service history seems fine - Halfords are VAT-reg and the only one needed was done on time. [You'd hope that they would have had the sense to use OE-spec parts on a warranty car.... if not you could try claiming off them.]

If you do your own oil-change with a non-gen rubbish filter, then you'll definitely screw any chance of a subsequent warranty claim if the worst happens.

Thanks scewloose. You have a fair point. I will leave the filter then and get it serviced normally. I wonder if I can get Halfords to check their records for the 12000 service?

Shouild be under warranty if serviced at 12000 by Halfords to Ford spec. Might not get as much goodwill as if serviced within Ford dealers network though.

Firstly, in answer to you post, the oil filter is inside the round black plastic housing at the front of the engine, it screws off (68 mm hex nut like shape on the end), it should be hand tight. If you take off the small front undertray you should see it. Secondly, regarding your service intervals and warranty, the service intervals are 12,500 miles or 12 months and there are no interim ones (although I like to change the oil halfway between, because I do short journeys). If you first service was at 12,000 miles AND the car was 12 months old or less (give or take a month) then your warranty should still be intact, providing the car is not over 2 years old now. If it isn't over 2 years old then you need to get it serviced at 2 years old or 25,000 miles, whichever comes sooner, to maintain the warranty and if you get this second service done at a Ford dealer then usually any lost "goodwill" with them will more than likely be re-instated.

If you go to www.etis.ford.com the free part of the site will tell you what services are required on any Ford and what they consist of.
