i have got a peugeot 406 2.1 td,just changed the radiator as old one was well past its sell by date. i have bled the system as by the haynes manual,but i could only find one bleed valve and that was on the heater matrix,does anyone know any different or if there are more bleed valves?

Could only find one on my 2.1, back of the engine compartment on hose presumably from top of heater, sounds like yours. Have never had a problem having bled the system two three times for radiator and/or hose change as per Haynes. So always assumed that this was the only bleed nipple.

Hi cholin,nothing to do with radiators,i saw on an old post and you had the same problem as me a while ago with over revving engine you changed the thermister,any luck? my dealer wants me to change the instrument panel!thanks in advance

Sorry to intrude on your thread Sane with the second part here but to answer your repeated(?) question I am sure there is only one relevent bleed point on my '96 2.1TD. It's the only one I found and I never had any problems (using a pop bottle blu-tacked into the filler cap as a header) after refilling the system.

It didn't work! I changed the sensor on the advice of local Pug agent who gave me the part no. and said you can do it yourself. Unfortunately they picked the wrong sensor I took the car back and they gave it another engine diagnosis test and came up with different sensor which was reporting the engine as running at -4 deg C! They replaced this and no further trouble over the past year or whatever. I believe this sensor is on the right side of the engine looked at from the front and is green but don't quote me. I am not sure if you lose coolant when you remove this but sounds like a diy job and worth a try. I can't give you a sensible costing of the garage job as we had a sort of conflict of interest over their first effort. as a point of interest I sometimes find my by no means large right foot strays off the brake pedal and nudges the accelerator. The consequent momentary increase in revs gives me palpitations.

can someone tell me where the bleed points are on the cooling system of the peugeot 406 2.1 td 1996 please?

Sane, what makes you think the system needs bleeding? Are you having any cooling or heating problems since the radiator change?

Sane, there are two small diameter pipes that leave the expansion tank and are clipped to the front of the radiator. If you follow the thin pipe that is clipped to the radiator and then follows the side of the air filter, it goes around the back of the air filter and into the block behind the fuel filter. Next to the elbow of this pipe behind the fuel filter is one of the bleed valves (on mine anyway) and as Cholin says, if you look at the two pipes that come out of the heater matrix, follow the higher one about six inches, and again on an elbow, there is another bleed valve.
Use a header tank (as Cholin describes) and leave the engine ticking over with the heater control on full heat as you bleed the two valves and you shouldn't have any trouble.
The bleed valve behind the fuel filter snapped off on mine a few years ago when I was changing the coolant, it was plastic, but the fitting is brass, and so I carefully drilled it out and Peugeot supplied me with a brass allen screw type fitting, and this has worked fine ever since.

Another point perhaps worth mentioning is that I dropped the cap off the nipple into the works on one occasion and after practically dismantling the car to find it discovered that it appeared to be identical to a schrader dust cap.
