pollen filter on fiesta 1998 - r2d2
The air coming into the car (a 1998 1.2 16v LX fiesta) seems a little dusty. It seems to get worse when the hot air setting is used.

I've swiched the 'pollen filter' over and it's improved things marginally.

I'd consider switching the generic filter to a 'premium' air filter if anyone thought that might do the trick.

Are there any other things that could cause it?

Thanks

Perhaps the foam around the edges of the heater matrix is decomposing?

Switched it over ?.. Do you mean replaced?.

These filters do get dusty, but it is just doing its job. When you pop in a new one its amazing how much greater air flow takes place. I would just replace the ordinary one more often and make sure the seating etc is all in good order. Can't see any advantage in wasting money on a better one.
You could give it a half-time hoover to prolong it's life and increase airflow.
