Ford S Max - PW
Saw second S Max today (first one parked though). Looks really good- and not much taller than normal car. Think that looked odd was the metalwork on the top of the rear n/s door was covered in masking tape- and car had a 55 reg- didn't these go on sale after the 06 plates came out?

Would still like one though.

Saw my first one a couple of days ago. Looked very impressive for a people carrier with its low roofline and sporting stance.

Should bode well for the new Mondeo when that appears.

I drove one a few weeks ago - it was a 1.8 tdci with the 6-speed 'box in Zetec trim.

Firstly, the handling and steering feel is a revelation! Firmish ride and smooth, nippy engine that begs to be driven for enjoyment too. Still a big vehicle - one review said it was bigger than the original Galaxy and I can well believe it.

Looks very sporty in the flesh. I don't much care for the fake aluminium dash finish, nor the cheapening of the interior plastics the further down the dash you go. The third row of seats are a little fiddly to fold, with little brittle plastic thingies that might not last long, and they don't fold completely flat, but still very practical. The seat belt mechanism is a little intrusive in the third row too as one's secured from the roof and cuts across.

I also think traction control should be a standard feature and it does need the dual glass roof to lift the cabin ambience.

Discounts are already being offered and it should be great value a few years down the line - definitely the best compromise small people carrier out there methinks.

Is the cheapest engine the best one to go for?

I notice that it is the only one with a chain cam engine.
