I've got a three year-old Nissan Navara pickup and somebody recently told me, because it's classed as a goods vehicle, I should be observing a lower speed limit on single carriage and dual carriageway roads. I know that's true of something like a transit van, but I'm not sure about the Navara. It's something to do with the weight (2 tonnes has something to do with it), but I'm not sure whether it's the gross vehicle weight fully laden, or whether it's the unladen weight, or what it is.
Anybody know for sure? You would think my local dealership would know, but they don't.

I thought Transit vans were not subject to speed limits at all.

I hope this answers your question :)

According to this, if your vehicle exceeds 2 tons yet is below 7.5, the differences are that you are limited to 50mph on single carriageways and 60 on dual carriageways, yet you can do 70mph on motorways ( 60 mph if towing a trailer ).

I assume this is a "soft" rule ie not enforced. I regularly see white van men seemingly attempting speeds that would stretch a F1 driver.
|
The main reason it is not enforced is because the BiB do not know about it (Well most anyway)????

But do SPEC's camera's?
They read your reg, so linked to the DVLA know the rating for the vehicle, whilst calculating your time through a measured section of road.
I don't know the answer, just thinking out load.

Many van drivers have been "done" for exceeding the limits. All traffic police and tax camera operatives are well aware of these rules

Have you noticed that the Motorway speed limit for goods vehicles up to 7.7 tonnes etc is says 70+ what! Is that a licence to speed for white van man?
