Corsa 1.5 TD 96 Horn not working MOT due - Daz
Hi, my wife's Corsa horn has stopped working, bought a relay from a scrappy which has made no difference, checked all fuses just to be sure.

Any ideas please MOT due next week - help!

Have you changed the horn itself? Often they are mounted down low towards the front of the car and they catch all sorts of crud and muck and so this could be your problem.

no, not yet, will give that a go next, only trouble is unhelpful scrappy happily charge for parts but won't let you test anything, already wasted £5 on a relay.

Any other suggestions before I go spending again please?

Would also agree to change the horn unit itself.

Had the same problem on a Sierra I once owned. When I took the horn off the mounting bracket an eggcup full of water poured out of it! That most pleasurable of moments in a fault finding exercise when you just go, Aha!

Are you allowed to pass an MOT test if you simply take along one of those bulb horns? You know, the squeezy ones?

Using a meter check the voltage at the horn when it is pressed ,no voltage relay /wiring/switch fault, voltage horn unit faulty.

Problem found, one of the wires going to the plug has come apart, possibly due to corrosion.

Trouble is you need to take the bumper off to get at the damn thing!

op
when you have undone the bumper brackets under the bonnet and pulled the bumper forward and wedged it there, you would idealy want someone to push the horn button as you tap the horn. If as i suspect in (50% of cases)this does not make it work you need to first make sure the horn is actually working and then move onto stage 2 the difficult bit :( this is where you either need a steering wheel removal tool or you put a switch on the dash board to make horn work and use the (brown) wire behind the cowling to achieve your objective because this is the live direct from the other side of the horn and will need to be earthed through the switch if you use this option.
(DO NOT) try and remove steering wheel without a puller as the upper part of the steering shaft is a week point here and could snap

thanks for the info, even with moving the bumper brackets there is not enough space for me to work in so I will need to remove the whole damn thing.

Wire appears to have snapped off, I'm wondering if I ought to get another connector with a section of wiring and then use connector blocks to the original wires?
