I have a newish Espace and my wife wants it pimping in the back with tinted windows. I have seen some kits on ebay for reasonable money, but suspect it might be a nightmare to fit.
If I were to splash the cash and get the professionals in what will it cost me, or should I have a go at it myself?

I have tried to diy,on almost flat glass in a Mitsubishi.I just wasted my money,i will have a go at most things but with window tinting you need lots and lots of practice.I recently had a Range Rover tinted for a customer and it cost £400.

I have done the windows of my house's doors.
First time, I tried doing them in situe, it was a disaster, and if you pull it off, it leaves ALL of the glue layer on the glass.
Next, I removed the sealed units from the door, and did them on a work surface, despite all of the proper preparations etc... they still had tiny imperfections, certainly not good enough for a car window, but OK for a house door with one layer of obscured glass anyway. Most solvents won't remove the glue either, I had to use Nitromoors paint remover!

I did the rear windows to the van. Again a complete disaster. In the end I got SWMBO to do it as I was runnig out of patience. Her attempt was actually very good, but not as good as the nice photo of a rear window of some Saxo on the packaging, but it was good enough for my needs (security).
The instructions assume you are doing it under laboritory conditions in a Class F cleanroom. What they don't say is "If you are fitting this by the side of the road like most people do, it will look pants". It does however serve a very usefulpurpose of keeping the glass in one piece is you are unlucky enough to reverse into a tree (like I did).
I was quoted some £30 per rear window on my van to have it done professionally. I was very tempted.

This 'blackout glass' looks awful - don't do it mate.

its not too bad to do on flat glass in a clean place
im not familiar with your vehicle..but if you have the experiance , possibly consider removing any glass you can and taking it indoors...much easier to do on the kitchen table
the rear screen will be a total pain..you either need to join it on along the hrw strips or heat shrink the film
have a search on google...theres a forum with plenty of tips and advice

As an alternative some manufacturers sell OEM sun blinds. I bought them for the rear door windows and rear screen on my car. They match perfectly the shape and size of the glass and have the added benefit of removing them when not required. They are not cheap but alot cheaper than window tinting. I think proper window tinting is in the region of £400-500

It devalues a vehicle something rotten and its a swine to get off needs experts to fit really and of course it has to be legal.

Remember the cans of Sperex Window Tint you could buy in the 1970's? I tinted the windows of my Mark 1 Cortina, only for it all to come off when I tried to wipe the moisture off one misty night.
Come to think of it, those Cortina windows did used to steam up a lot when parked up by the side of a road; I wonder if there was a design fault with the ventilation system on that model ;-)

Pay a pro to do it mate. The espace has a very curved rear window which even pro's can struggle with. The rear doors, and quarter glasses are quite flat, but have a lot of trim oround the edges, making it difficult to get a nice clean finish around them.
You'll waste three or four kits just getting yourself to an ok standard.
