1999 Citroen Saxo - No Ignition Lights - Shlong
Hi, just wondering if anyone can help, ive got v reg saxo 1.1, of witch im having problems getting dash lights/ignition hence the car wont start.
Now the story in full is the barrel got jammed the other day and the key wouldnt come out, this meant the ignition was staying on, and as it was dark and raining, the only thing i could do was lock it up and disconnet the battery.
When i came to look at the fault, i found that one of the three pins on the back of the barrel, you know the prongs that turn the ign swich, had broken off and jammed the ign switch, hence stopping the barrell from turning, now i have managed to repair the barrel prongs using a spare barrell i had lying around, but now on rebuilding it, the starter starts to turn over before the key gets that far (this also happens if i turn the ign switch manually, with a screwdriver)but i am also getting no dash lights except for the battery warning light.?? And the car doesnt start?? Any ideas anyone, i would appreciate your help..
Many thanks

i would suggest check the connector cables that attach to the ignition barrel, two of them are buried deeper in the dash under the fuse box than you realise and these have probably "popped" apart

Hi, by block connectors, do you mean the ones that come off the switch, there is a black one, brown one, an a grey one?? As they are ok, but you mentioned the fuse box, and apart from the one under the bonnet, are you suggesting there is another connection by the fuse box in the ns dash area??
Thanks

just dug one of these out and they are indeed black grey and brown, now ive had to rack the memory for this as i havnt had to sort out an attempted theft saxo for about 2 years now (i reckon the little scumbags have all realised that you njeed the coded key by now )anyway if memory serves me well you would assume that black goes to black grey to grey and brown to brown, well im sure it doesnt one of the colours is inverted ie black goes to grey etc if you understand me and this is where im stuck as i cant remember which one it was,if it isnt that then one of the plugs will be the wrong way round in its socket,as i say its ages since i did the last one but the first time it had me flumaxed as well what probably didnt help was i was putting an ax ignition switch on it as well because they were cheaper at the time

LOL.

Thanks, i understood what you were saying, so i will try inverting the connections and also try, brown to black etc..

hi, many thanks for your msge, the battery is ok, as its fitted with a quick release on the pos+ side, which is back on and secure, and i have plenty of power, because the battery light comes on with the key (it is the only light however) and the engine turns ovr, but doesnt fire? i was ondering if there was some kind of reset after disconnecting batterys on citroens??
thanks

I believe that the battery light comes on in the accesory position to remind you that you are drawing power.

hi, i have double checked the block connectors, ie brown black and grey, and each one has an individual notch cut out and they will only fit in one connector each. So any further assistance anyne may have will be appreciated.
thanks
