97 Clio - Immobiliser problem? - AC
I've had my Clio from new and have never had any problem with the immobiliser...until now that is!

It has been sitting on the drive for 2 or 3 weeks. I just went out to tidy it up ( I WAS going to try and sell it!). I managed to get into it using the remote but when I tried the ignitition the immobiliser light was flashing and the engine wouldn't turn over....it was just completely dead...total silence. The radio wouldn't come on and the lights on the dashboard kept fading. The central locking wouldn't work with either of my 2 remotes so I had to lock the doors manually.

Any ideas??? Could it be the battery?

Hi AC

It sounds like the main battery to me!

The immobiliser is a passive system and is totally independent from the central locking system. If the central locking has packed up after you got in, and with the dimming lights it all sound like a 'dead battery' to me.

Tell me is it the original battery from new? If so it has done well!

Clearly a better failure. Connect a battery charger over night then check to make sure it was not cused due to an interior or boot light being left on. If no lights then fire it up but it sounds like a new battery is the order of the day. Regards Peter

Yes, I am pretty sure that it is the original battery!!! It's sure picked a good time to finally give up...NOT!

You should have taken a leaf from my book and sold to your Dad telling him it was a great little runner!

Could have been a worse time, at least you were warm and dry at home.
If it is the original battery it will have a date burned into the case from the Renault factory.
