Just come back from Eilat (southern most part of Israel) after a week of winter sunshine. Great time thanks but I know this needs to be motoring related so............
Loads of taxis, all painted white, and almost all except a few Merc C-class and Seats, Skodas. Mainly Octavias but a few Fabias as well. I got more than a few and they were all semed to drive very well, even those with over 300,000km on them.
You can't go far in Eilat. Its about 5km to the border with Egypt and about 350km to Tel Aviv or Jerusalem with just desert in between, so people mainly fly. So the average taxi does load and loads of stop start work at about 1 mile per journey at most. Is this the harshest way to treat a car?
BTW, rented a Focus Saloon Auto (to keep Adski happy). I just love them. Great ride, fast, economical, roomy and simply good to drive.
If it wasn't for SWMBO I would have either a Skoda or Ford now. Badge snobbery keeps me in a lovely Subaru (she drives a Hyundai??) but I could save fortunes in a great diesel Ford or Skoda.

-- I'll I can say is "more fool you !!". It's only the brits who bother much about badges & as a result lots of us end up spending too much money on a car that's not particularly better than anything else.
For the record, I've just bought an 04 Hyundai Coupe - great car & for the money just can't beat it - don't give a monkeys about badges & so ended up with a great car for a great price

You may be right 'more fool me' but she's my wife and I love her so as its for my benefit I'll have the Scooby. She's happy as lamb with her Trajet - so she is not snobby about her car, only mine!
I think she sees her car as the family bus (it is) so image is immaterial, but wants something special to go out in of an evening, and a Ford or Skoda just don't do it. I've probably spoiled her with all manner of cars in the past, so what can I do?? :shrug:

ahhh,
you will go spoiling them !! Being a yorkshireman it's not something I'm prone to do - hence the "value for money" angle when buying a new car too !!!
Just can't stand the thought of paying way over the odds for something - built in instinct, can't help - ask any yorkshireman !!
