Type R...? - G
Just test drove in the Civic R and think I'm gonna buy.
The six speed box is the biz and there's so much more torque than previous vtech Hondas. Handling is somewhere between the Integra and the Accord, which is just about right.
January is earliest delivery, but think I'll wait for the new reg in March. They even said to shop around for a discount and they'd match it, so discounts can be had!!
I test drove the Scooby WRX (with ppp) and there's sod all in it performance wise. Just 8k in my pocket....... :-)
There's no other alternative is there? Cooper S maybe... Never bought a new car before so it's all a bit strange....
Looks like a "bargain" though, I seem to remember the Sierra Cosworth being about £24k ten years ago and that had the same power output!

Alternative: Sport Clio 172.
Not as off the shovel, but apparently is more involving than the Type R ('Car' Dec01), and £500 cheaper. Test-drive one.

Additionally there seems to be a few up for sale on the second hand market. (Which to my mind means that people didn't like them, er... so forget everything l just said.)

ps. Whats ppp?
Re: Type R...? - ladas are cool
i think PPP means something about finance???
Re: Type R...? - T lucas
Renault over Honda?Who would do that.
Re: Type R...? - G
I test drove the Clio 172 before the shape changed and bought an Integra! The Clio didn't seem that quick and it is indeed a Renault.
PPP is the prodrive performance pack for scoobys. Main dealer fit so warranty still intact. Takes it to about 240bhp and 245 nm. Its a cheeky £1600 quid though which makes the Scooby nearly £25k and at that price there are other alternatives.
Re: Type R...? - T lucas
If you want the subaru, get the Japan spec WRX,lots more power, reasonable price, and laugh at the tears from your local Subaru dealer.'Get that car off my forecourt b4 it contaminates my lovely UK cars'.
Re: Type R...? - dan
Comments on Renault accepted. BTW has anyone seen pics of the 3 litre Clio. Suffice to say it doesn't look like one, which at 25k is a damn good job.

Re: Type R...? - Honest John
The 180bhp six-speed SEAT Leon 20VT Cupra is just £15k list at any SEAT dealer and comes with a/c which is £800 extra in the Civic Type R. One of the brokers was advertising Octavia RS 180s on this website for £13,500 a week or so ago. Five-dpeed rather than six-speed box, though.

Re: Type R...? - G
I had considered the Leon. It's definately a good price. But I don't need 5 doors and the Civic is 5 seconds quicker 0-100 (for example) which puts it in a different league. OK you can chip the Leon for an easy 210bhp but then it's goodbye warranty.
btw I was quoted £1000 not £800 for air con.
