SpaceWagon Air Mass Meter - ralphdew
I bought an (70K miles ex fleet part s/h) 2000W 2.4GDI SE SpaceWagon in April 2003. In July 2003 the idling became increasingly erratic.Ultimately the car was undriveable due to frequent stalling.

The problem was traced to the inlet manifold being blocked with deposits - when cleaned up the problem went away for two months then recurred. Despite servicing/flushing/Forte-ing and using synth oil and Optimax this has continued. I'm told the problem is the Air Mass Meter, for which Mitsubishi apparently want £900 exc VAT.

Assuming it is the Air Mass Meter, is it possible to source this at a lower cost or to repair or at least test the current one? has anyone else come across this problem with these symptoms (I searched the Forum but could not find any clues)

Very Grateful for any suggestions/comments

I checked out BBA-REMAN - great site and they list reman Mitsubishi GDi Throttle Actuators. I have emailed them for more info. Many thanks for the pointer.

I believe this is a 'known' Mitsubishi problem. I obtained one last May '03 to fit to a Mitsi and I think it cost about £150.

Thats a lot lower than my original info - thanks for posting. I'll be getting a quote from BBA-Reman when I've found the part no. BTW, parts excepted, we (wife + 5 little ones) are happy with the car.

It was a 'recon' one, which is why it was so cheap.

From BBA-Reman of from another supplier?

Thanks

Got it from a supplier in Nottingham IIRC, who also supplied me with a Micra MAF at about the same time - I will try to find details. BBA-Reman are very good though.
