I have just fitted 4 new 195x65x15H tyres to my 1992 Mercedes 230E auto. This is my second complete set. 3 years and 25,1000 miles ago I fitted the first set. I put the fronts on the back, and backs on the front at about 12K. I found them fine as as most of our motoring is in London, with the occassional long run I thought the milage OK. Is this the experience of other rear wheel drive users?
Over the years I have had all the top brands and I can't honestly tell much of a difference. If you drive 'normally' and never screech off or scream around bends modern tyres seem very similar and more than adequate, although these new ones seem a bit quieter.

that sounds an incredible time/distance for a set of tyres!, you must have good roads down there, up here it doesn't matter what quality of tyre i put on regards lifespan, they all last between 18mnths/2years. our roads are mainly sprayed tar and sharp-edged granite chips, great for grip(once the loose ones have gone) but don't half chew your rubber and pocket!.

I managed to get 36,000 miles out of a set of Bridgestone RE-88s on my last Accord (2000 2.0VTEC SE), then switched to RE-720s. After 12,000 miles they still had plenty of tread left. My new Accord (2003 2.4 Type S) has Micheln Pilot Sport - after 7000 miles they've still got a lot of miles left in them.

It does seem to depend on the car. I used Goodyear on a '95 Mondeo, and got 25000 out of the fronts and 60000 at the rear. I now have a 2002 Toyota Corolla Verso, and it needed its original Bridgestones replaced at 20000. I fitted Goodyears, hoping to match the mileage I got with the Ford, but they are wearing just as quickly ar the Bridgestones.

I replaced a set of Continental Premium Contacts with NCT5s last year. The contis only lasted 12000 miles. The NCT5s seem to be lasting longer. They seem to have made my 2001 Mondeo a nicer car. The steering is lighter at parking speeds, and they don't tramline like the continentals.

Sorry but my Hankook 195/65/15s have done 32,000 on the front of the Vectra. They were in danger of outliving the car. The Speedys?! (Charlie Brown special) on the back have done 22,000 and have bags of tread left. Cheap, but alas noisy motoring (however does hide the squeaks and rattles).
Was comtemplating some Goodyear Eagle Ventura rather than NCT5s as these came out just about tops on TyreTest.com

Were you going by make alone, or using the same tyre model?
You can only compare with the latter, as all makes have a range of tyres with the complete gamut of charactersitics.

I had the Ford for 7 years, and clocked up 140,000 miles in total. I had NCT2 originally, then Ventura, then NCT5. I got similar mileage from all of these, all 'H' rated tyres. It is NCT5 I now have on the Toyota.

The Ventura is a great tyre in the wet. I had them on my '95 Mondeo, but when I came to replace them I could no longer get them, and switched to NCT5. The NCT5 gives a quieter ride, but I don't think the wet grip is quite as good.

where are these NCT5s manufactured?

Mine were made in Germany. I had to order them from Kwikfit, but the advantage was that all 4 were a matched set made in the 17th week of 2004. ie 3 weeks ago. Really fresh rubber!

In various reviews I have read, NCT5's only drawback which is always mentioned is Wet Performance (it's not bad, it's just not up with the best) , not surprising really for a 'Grand Touring' type Tyre.
I have no problems at all in the wet in my current car, and if I was in the market for new tyres today, I'd like to try them, but if I had a car that was not excellent in wet conditions, I'd probably get something else.
