I have a v reg (99) for fiesta and when coming to a stand still the engine revs upto 2500 rpm. once you have come to a complete stand still the engine stops reving and goes back to its normal 850 rpm. Also when going along and you put the car in neutral say at 50 MPH the car still revs. Does anybody have a solution to this, i have change the throttle cable and the air filter but dont knwo what else to do.

When you are travelling at 50mph in neutral, how fast is the engine revving, my Fiesta does this to a certain extent, although I've never tried going into neutral at 50mph before!

Mine does the same. I posted on here a while back and a number of things were suggested.
1) The MAF? sensor?
2) The Idle speed control valve
3) ...something else which I can't remember
Anyhoo, it still does it and apart from wasting a bit more petrol it doesn't bother me too much.

It goes upto 2000 revs at around 50 mphg and 2500 max when idle sitting at traffic

Pull the ECU fuse in the fusebox (purple 3A fuse) for about 15 mins. Replace it, start it without touching the throttle and let it idle for a good 10 mins (go indoors for a cuppa and a bun) then without switching off go for a drive. If it still does it dont throw money at it, get it checked professionally.

We have had this problem for the last few weeks!
My local Ford Garage wanted our R reg 1.4zetec fiesta ghia in for a whole day with no guarentees and implied that I would get a bill for in excess of £120 just for running diagnostic tests plus whatever work and replacement parts were needed (warned it could be pretty expensive if the Engine Management System needed replacing).
The car is relatively low milage and has not given us any trouble previously.
Half hour after reading your posting it's back to it's old very nippy state!

See my thread for Ford V 6 Idle problem. This a problem experienced by Andy Bee. The same priciples apply. I also had the problem on a Zetec engine and cured it by using these methods. Top Ford technician told me about disconnecting the battery and getting the ECU to relearn its values but it could also be the idle speed contol valve.
