1. What about the "spruce a BMW" slot? The only bit we didn't see was the engine no. being removed and the VIN plate changed. How back street can they get.
2. VBH...perhaps it didn't in the Lexus but it did in those jeans.
3. What is the title music? I remember having it on a rock compilation tape, over 25 years ago!
4. Golf economy test interesting. About 5mpg better than my old XUD Xantia when thrashed but 10MPG better then I've ever seen at the best. Then I do like to convert some fuel to heat via the brakes.

A very poor show I must say - although VBH is starting to warm the G.Lacey Cockles.
The BMW shenanigans was just embarassing.
The Golf economy bit was good but why do they insist of making a "joke" out of everything.
As for the Lexus vs Rover - I'll go for the Rover anyday. Having driven many of the new MG range I must say they are the best handling cars I have driven. Why are TG taking the mick out of MG Rover by comparing them to the Lexus as Sports Centre not Sports Club and then on the other hand lamenting the demise of the Brit car industry.
Just watch Driven - miles better.

If VBH is getting to you have you started to become a motorcycle fan on BBC2 Saturday afternoons yet, that's a better bet.
I've not been near either but would buy the Rover over the Lexus without driving them. The Lexus reminded me of a red 1991 Honda Civic ESi Dad had a while back, at a glance they look the same family of styling.
And you're far too young for the music...right!

They must please somebody! but in some of the brief backound shots to the brief, obscure presentation of a sort of ersatz, sanitized Mustang I thought I saw a Charger and a Corvette Stingray. Perhaps they really know the treasons they are committing, but they think beats working?
Now in Driven two nights ago there was (bar the colour) a jolly nice Maserati!
Why can't we swap 70 odd years of a generally boring life for 70 minutes in an SSKL?

What do we conclude from the the VW test?
Driven in unrealistic 'economy' mode it gave 10mpg more than driven to use as much fuel as possible. Even using those 2 extremes the cost saving for a 12000 pa user is about £140.
Can't see the point in having an £17K+ GT car with group 12/13 insurance and driving it in a manner to save a very small proportion of annual running costs. Much better to buy a 1.4 petrol or the 1.9 SDI(non turbo)

With regard to the golf economy test, I thought "what a patronising pair of twerps these presenters are".
Get them away from diesels before they do some really serious damage to the culture of responsible driving (and I'm not slagging off petrol drivers, by the way). Go away, Jason and Adrain!
But VBH - well.............
By the way, I only watched the tape of last week's TG a coule of nights ago and wondered whether the lassie who did the cartwheel was actually VBH or a stand-in. Ran the clip till the tape stretched but still couldn't figure it.

VBH is just useless - they put a woman on to be a 'ladette', someone should realise that the lad culture is all but dead, all the quality mags that came with it are all but gone.

Far better instead to have Penny from driven who isn't simpering, seems to be able to drive a bit, and (cue cheap shot), at least can see over the steering wheel.

Tiff is the only thing that lends any credibility to TG these days, and it's only a matter of time before he leaves the school yard.

Don't you get a bit fed up of all those fillers of the bloke with the moustache and the TVR when you'd rather be watching reports? I reckon they must spend 5 minutes each week telling us what is coming up rather than actually showing it. Worryingly, Driven seems to be getting in on the act too.

OK, here's my confession.
I bought an early Xantia this year for not a lot of money, and although I've had to fork out a few quid on it, I reckon I'm still up as opposed to having bought a Mondeo (or other rep-esque mobile).
Plus, I've got fantastic ride, if not pin sharp handling. Not sure all that matters much these days seeing as it spends most of its time in traffic.
I just pray the master pump up suspension thingy doesn't go; that would knacker the investment!

The Top Gear title music is called Jessica by the Allman Brothers Band.
I have it on a cd called LA Freeway which is also a "driving" compilation including Jeopardy by Greg Kihn, "Ride like the wind" by Chris Cross, Copperhead Road by Steve Earl etc.
Problem is the cd to tape recorder function on my lo-fi has bust so I can't play it in my car my car. I suppose I could always borrow my wifes Mundano with the built in cd player.

Playing on the Hi-Fi is the 1997 Country Music Awards CD (don't laugh). Track 7 just been on. "Taney Town" by Steve Earle from his 1997 El Corazon CD.
Brilliant track with a real grungy rock underpinning. Have been listening to some of his tracks on the net over the past few months, must get a couple of CDs.
And what am I doing listening to Country? Well being a rock guy from the 70s I struggled with punk/new romantic/rap and all that followed. Found by chance that the Rock end of Country was still real gritty musicians playing real instruments....and doing it live.
And that's Steve Earl.

Come on Steve Earle's been around for 15 years. Country rock a good deal longer. Don't forget "rock" came from country and blues too. Elvis' first songs were country blues. Ever been to Nashville or Memphis? Listened to bluegrass?

You top man. It's being worrying me for ages. I remember this tape from a boring residential course in my youth. Played it in the room most nights and I hate not to place a track from the past.
Re: CD in car. My Xantia has a good spec 6-speaker standard stereo setup and I wanted CD to save taping them in the house first (and for the quality). Looked long and hard finally getting a Sony CD walkman designed for car use "the Discman". This runs for a couple of weeks on two AA batteries and has such a good anti-skip it can fall off the console into the footwell without missing a note. The sound quality is brilliant and gives the already satisfactory stereo a leg up.
Only £60, the cost of four CDs.

Everyone slags TG off mercilessly, but we still seem to be watching it. Personally, I watch for a bit of sideways escapism with Tiff and some reasoned comment from VBH . Jason & Adrian I can manage without. Jason's style is so irritating.
Due to being out of a Tuesday evening, I watched TG and Driven back to back last night. Madame went off in a huff to do some needlework. I prefer Driven ...
BTW why give the Smart and the Matiz the same score for time exposed to danger when the Smart completely failed to complete the manoeuvre?
